Knowledge about collagen

About 80% of your skin is collagen, minus water. It’s the main structural protein found throughout your entire body, providing your tissue and organs with both strength and elasticity.

As you age, the collagen in your skin begins to degrade. Skin forms wrinkles, folds, brown spots and spider veins, and the pores enlarge. This process is greatly sped up by sun exposure. In fact, 90% of the wrinkled, distressed skin we associate with aging is caused not by the passage of time, but by a lifetime of sun exposure. (For evidence of this, consider how different the skin on your buttocks looks compared to that on your face or forearm!)

The loss of collagen in your skin can make you look older and more tired than you actually are. Fortunately, a variety of injectable collagen products are now available to help you replace some of that lost collagen and rejuvenate your skin.

Zyderm/Zyplast
Introduced in the early 1980s, Zyderm and Zyplast have been used by more than 1.5 million people around the world. They’re made of highly purified bovine (cow) collagen, and are primarily used to improve wrinkles, fine lines and acne scars. They can also help create better definition around the borders of the lips.

Zyderm comes in two formulas: Zyderm I is 25% bovine collagen and 0.3% lidocaine (a numbing agent). It’s typically used for more superficial fine lines and wrinkles. Zyderm II is 50% bovine collagen and 0.3% lidocaine. It’s generally used on moderate-sized wrinkles and scars. Zyplast, an even stronger formulation, is used on the more severe wrinkling and scarring, and works particularly well on enhancing lips. Sometimes, Zyderm and Zyplast are used together to treat different areas of the face. Treatments tend to last 3 to 6 months.

Because the collagen in Zyderm and Zyplast is animal-derived, you’ll need to have a skin test about a month prior to treatment to determine if you’re allergic to it. Symptoms of an allergic reaction, which may take several weeks to develop, include chest pain and shortness of breath, hives, redness and irritation of the skin, lumps and scarring. Call your doctor right away if you develop any of these symptoms following your skin test.

Cosmoderm/Cosmoplast
Made from highly purified human collagen, Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast can be used to augment the natural collagen in your skin, making it fuller and smoother. Cosmoderm is, perhaps, more appropriate for superficial fine lines, such as those around the lips, while Cosmoplast is well suited for deeper wrinkles. Both contain the anesthetic lidocaine, which numbs the skin at the site of the injection.

Because these collagen fillers are made with human collagen, you don’t need to have an allergy skin test before receiving treatment. Results are immediate, and generally last for 2 to 3 months. You’ll need touch-up treatments to maintain the original results.

Evolence
One of the latest collagen dermal fillers to receive the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is Evolence. Derived from porcine (pig) collagen, it’s injected into the dermis layer of the skin to correct moderate to deep facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds. Some evidence suggests Evolence may produce much less of the temporary bruising and swelling common with other dermal fillers.

Evolence’s results are immediate, and, officially at least, last for up to 6 months. The FDA may soon permit the product’s labeling to change, however, for clinical trials in Europe suggest that Evolence may actually last up to 12 months.

Knowledge about Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar that gives skin fullness and elasticity. It does this because its molecules are “water loving.” In other words, the molecules are attracted to water molecules in the skin, binding and swelling to several times their own weight. As you age, your skin loses much of its own hyaluronic acid and thus much of its volume. As a result, it begins to sag, wrinkle and fold.

Commercial hyaluronic acids—Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm and Radiesse—can revitalize and plump up aging skin. All these products contain non-animal, hypoallergenic hyaluronic acids. You do not need a skin test before you receive treatment.

What are hyaluronic acid injections like?
Hyaluronic acid dermal filler procedures are usually quick (less than 30 minutes) and are done in your doctor’s office under a local anesthetic and with an ultra-fine needle. You can return to your daily activities immediately afterward. Side effects are minor. You may experience mild swelling, bruising and perhaps some redness, but such symptoms disappear within a few days. In rare cases, patients develop red bumps, which may require antibiotics. Always call your doctor if you have side effects.

What can I expect from the injections?
Be patient! It usually takes several weeks for the hyaluronic acid to fully plump up the skin—and to create significant changes in your appearance.

Hyaluronic acids are biodegradable, so they’re not a permanent solution to wrinkles and folds. You’ll need maintenance treatments every few months—how often will depend on such factors as the treatment area on your face, your age and your lifestyle.

Restylane
Restylane is a crystal-clear hyaluronic acid gel that is most commonly used to smooth out wrinkles and folds around the lower portion of the face, such as the thin “smoker’s lines” around the mouth and the wider nasolabial folds that run from the edges of the nose to the corners of the lips. It’s also used to shape the cheeks and chin, reduce forehead lines, and rejuvenate the back of the hands. And it’s very popular for increasing the size of lips, giving them a fuller, more enhanced appearance.

Restylane’s results typically last from 6 to 12 months on the face and from 3 to 6 months in the lips.

Perlane
Perlane is essentially the same hyaluronic acid gel as Restylane, but its particles are slightly larger, a factor that makes Perlane more useful for reducing deep, large wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds, forehead “worry” lines, and the “marionette lines” that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin. Other common uses include lip enhancement, chin and cheek augmentation, and the softening of acne and other facial scars. Perlane is also sometimes used to fill in hollows under the eyes and to give the eyebrows a temporary lift.

Results vary, but last on average from 6 to 8 months. Most people need a maintenance treatment about once a year. (Often, Restylane’s smaller-molecule (and, thus, less expensive) formulation is used for the maintenance treatments.)

Juvederm
There are two types of Juvederm: Juverderm Ultra, which is used to correct moderate to severe wrinkles on the face and to add fullness to the lips; and Juvederm Ultra Plus, which has a denser formulation and, thus, is used to improve the appearance of deeper wrinkles. Juvederm is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler with published studies on its safety and effectiveness in people of color. Those studies showed that it doesn’t increase the risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in people with darker skin tones.

Results tend to last from 6 to 12 months.

Radiesse
This dermal filler is composed of calcium hydroxylapatatite (CaHA) particles suspended in a hyaluronic acid gel. Over time, the CaHA particles create a “scaffold” that gives your skin greater shape and fullness; the particles also stimulate your skin to produce new collagen in the treated area. This process, called neocollagenesis, provides your skin with even more volume and contour.

Radiesse is particularly useful in addressing the unsightly problem of folds and creases around the nose and mouth. It’s also used to raise the depressions of acne scars to an even level with the rest of the skin. In addition, it’s been used to help treat HIV-associated facial lipoatrophy, the loss of facial fat that often accompanies that illness.

Results typically last about 1 year.

Collagen is a Major Skin Protein

Our skin is made mainly of collagen, which is a protein. More than 80% (dry weight) of our skin is made of collagen. There are three major parts to our skin: collagen, elastin, GAGs, Glycosaminoglycans.

Collagen is a main structural protein found throughout our body. Collagen provides the strength our tissue and organs require while elastin provides the ability to stretch and recoil.

Sun Damage
As we age and we subject our skin to greater and greater amounts of sun damage, we degrade our skin's collagen, causing the look and feel of our skin to degrade as well. The ability of our skin to develop healthy collagen diminishes and we are left with collagen that is damaged.

Delay Skin Aging
Avoid the sun and using sunscreen with high SPF is the best way to protect your skin. The UV damage from the sun is serious and protecting your skin is the best way to ensure you will have youthful skin for many years
The words "I love you" are powerful ones. When you and your partner are pulled in different directions -- jobs, kids, friends, family, meetings -- sometimes a quick "love ya" is all either of you can manage at the end of the day.

1. Respond to a need
"The best way of expressing love is by anticipating a need of your partner's and fulfilling it,"

2. Share a laugh
"All relationships have times of conflict and difficulty,"
Encouraging laughter ensures there's some positivity to outweigh the negativity.

3. Be full of surprises
An unexpected gift or gesture says "You're special." It shows that you think of him and feel connected to him even when you're not together." If you happen to find something that relates to a topic or activity of interest to your mate, bring it home. Love letters also make great surprises.

4. Make eye contact
"Looking into each other's eyes signals you are deeply connected," Most busy couples, however, manage only quick glances. You needn't spend hours or even minutes gazing at each other. Take advantage of opportunities for eye contact that last longer than a few seconds.

5. Spend time together
It sounds obvious, but quality time is better than saying "I love you" a thousand times. Once in a while, suggest an activity that incorporates one of your partner's interests, even if it doesn't coincide with your own. The unselfish act shows that you cherish different sides of him.

6. Hug, hold hands and cuddle
Physically connecting with someone is the most natural way to express love. But after several years together, non-sexual touching often falls by the wayside, says Palmer. Revive it whenever you are together: pick up and squeeze his hand, or place your hand on his back. Sit close. Give him a hug goodbye and hello. And instead of sitting in separate chairs, cuddle up on the couch together once in a while.

Spend wise on wedding

The dress, the veil, the shoes, the flowers, the limo, the photographer, the cake, the caterer or country club… not to mention your wedding bands, honeymoon, bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts, parent gifts, and on and on. Don’t be fooled – the list of things to buy and book and do for your wedding is just as endless as you think, if not more so. Here are some great tips for how to save money on your wedding.

When it comes to congratulating you on your special engagement, everyone is there with open arms and beaming smiles. When it comes to shelling out the cash to pay for the big event, everyone points the finger. What gives? You only get married once, right?

Nowadays, there seems to be little rhyme or reason to the question on all our minds - who pays for the wedding. Some of today’s modern couples decide to undertake the bulk of the cost themselves. Sometimes the bride’s family follows the tradition of generations past and foots the bill on their dime. Other times, the bill can be split between both families, and often with help from the bride and groom. But any way you slice it, someone has to pay, and unfortunately, that money isn’t going to grow on the trees lining your backyard.

To make the most of the money that you do have to put toward your special day, keep this one thought in mind. Weddings are to wedding vendors what Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, and birthdays are to Hallmark, chocolate shops, jewelry stores, perfume makers and other gift merchants.

Weddings mean business. Weddings mean good business – megabucks. The vendors know just how important your special day is to you, and they capitalize on your emotion. They sense the flutter in your heart or they catch the tear glistening in your eye when you try on the dress and there, waiting in the wing, is the veil, the tiara, the shoes, the jewelry…all waiting on an assembly line once you’ve found “the dress.”

Call up anonymously and ask your preferred reception site what it would cost to book a graduation party, or a birthday celebration, or even a family reunion. I dare you. You’ll be sickened at the dramatic drop in price when the “w” word is no longer rolling off the tongue. On second thought, don’t call, unless you intend to book your special day incognito. You might lose your appetite for the whole thing.

To practice, and not just fantasy
An idea stay in your mind with no action, it will become weaker when time pass. Remember, the idea itself can not bring success
